Internet: Retro Research

Many of us often reminisce about childhood TV shows, movies and icons. Check out these sites to refresh your mind with the details. On

www.retrojunk.com you can watch the opening credits of a TV series, old movie trailers and TV commercials from each era. Many of the videos are in German, Japanese, or other languages. However, you might want to turn your pop-up blocker to high.

Good information on a TV series can be found at

www.tv.com, which also has some video clips. If you want to know about the day and time or broadcast company of live action shows, go to The Classic TV Database,

www.classic-tv.com.

Another group of sites is filled with unique random information. It has music, movies, TV, world events, fashion/fads from the 70’s to 90’s. Pay attention to the stuffed left-hand column (options change on almost every page). Visit

Events: Annual Faculty Library Award

The Albertsons Library at Boise State University is soliciting nominations for the Annual Faculty Library Award. The award honors a BSU faculty member who-

motivates students to use the Library and its services;
creates assignments that encourage the use of Library resources;
regularly utilizes the Library and/or its resources;
cosults with Library faculty when appropriate to achieve educational goals;
shows appreciation of the Library and acts as its advocate.

Nominations can be submitted via the Internet by clicking on the link located on the

Albertsons Library home page. Submit a

nomination and tell us why you think this person meets one or more of the five points listed above.

You may use the link more than once if you wish to nominate more than one candidate. More than one person can nominate the same candidate. Written nominations addressing the points above may also be mailed to Janice Burkholder or Albertsons Library, MS-1430.

Answer a Question, Win Stuff @thelibrary

Win cool stuff by simply answering a question! The

Question of the Week is a

First Year Reading contest sponsored by Albertsons Library and the Boise State University Bookstore.

A new question will be posted every Monday morning here, with the final question posted on November 6, 2006. Weekly winners will be randomly selected from appropriate responses the following Monday.

Angeline won last Monday's question of the week. The

winner's names will be posted on the library's website and they will be sent an email notification of their prize. On November 13, 2006, a grand prize winner will be selected from all appropriate responses sent in over the 12 week period. You could be next!

New Databases @thelibrary

The library is proud to announce the availability of several high-profile research databases, including JSTOR, Web of Science, Nature, GeoScience World and more!

JSTOR? JSTOR!

We said it once but it bears repeating: Albertsons Library purchased a campus-wide subscription to the entire JSTOR collection. The journals archived in JSTOR span many disciplines, including history, economics, political science, education, ecology, business, mathematics, music, and language and literature.

You can search the JSTOR database from the Find Articles section of the Library home page or find the individual journals in the Find Journals section. From the Journals List, select Vendor from the pull down menu, type in JSTOR, enter, and all of the journals in JSTOR will be listed alphabetically.

The library subscription to the JSTOR is also available to you if you are off-campus--you’ll be prompted to enter your BroncoWeb username and password.

Cake @thelibrary

It's the Library's birthday tomorrow, September 6th and you're invited to celebrate with us by getting some cake! We'll be giving away cake slices on the front steps of the library starting at 10:30 am.

In 1990 J. A. and Kathryn Albertson and Albertsons, Inc. donated six million dollars to enlarge and remodel the library (completed in 1995) to what you see today.

The first book to become part of the new "Albertsons Library" was Vardis Fisher's The Caxton printers in Idaho, a short history. Visit the Special Collections section of the library for additional historical tidbits of the Boise State University campus.

So, join us for some cake and get to know your campus library!
