Extended hours at the library

It's that time of year again -- papers are due, finals are looming, and stress levels are rising. Come to Albertsons Library to use the computer lab, study with your pals, and finish up your final projects.

Today,  Monday 4/30 the Library will extend its hours and be open until 2:00 AM, and on Sunday, May 6 the doors will open at 10:00 AM and not close until 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 10. The Library's hours are listed at http://library.boisestate.edu/calendar/main.php. Starbucks will also have extended hours Sunday, May 5 thru Wednesday, May 9.

Bring your snacks, dinner, laptop and headphones -- find a free chair, get comfortable and get 'er done.

Undergraduate Research Abstracts Available in ScholarWorks

Each year Boise State hosts the Undergraduate Research and Scholarship Conference which allows students to showcase their amazing talents. Including works from all disciplines, students have the opportunity to participate in research, develop artistic projects, and experiment with new learning methods.

This year, abstracts for over 200 posters are available through ScholarWorks. Including works from climate change to capitalism through eighteenth century song; availability of multicultural children's literature to training programs in adult recreational hockey; drug treatment programs to historical Idaho photography. Additionally, students have an opportunity to share their final posters by submitting their files to ScholarWorks.

The Library's new layout

During Spring Break the Albertsons Library was busy making the first floor more open and comfortable: we installed brand new carpet on the entire first floor of the library, and redesigned the space to include more group study tables next to wall outlets. You get better views of the Greenbelt, too.

Campus Read Program presents Dr. Paul J. Eastvold M.D.

Dr. Paul J. Eastvold, M.D., board certified in Clinical Pathology, Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine, will appear at Boise State on April 4. He will discuss his career in pathology, how health care science uses HeLa cells and the ongoing contribution of Henrietta Lacks.

Can't find an outlet to charge your phone or laptop? Then check out a MiLi! MiLi are external battery packs that can charge your mobile device, be it an iPad, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

The Circulation desk has three in-library use MiLi chargers that check out for 3 hours.

New Exhibit in Special Collections Highlighting Additions to the Church Collection

Frank Church on the campaign trail in 1976 in Nebraska,
seeking the Democratic Nomination for President.

Boise State University houses the papers of Frank Church (1924-1984), a four-term senator from Idaho (serving 1956-1980), former head of the Church Committee and the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, conservationist and advocate for the environment.

Bethine Church, political activist and widow of Frank Church, has graciously donated some important additions to BSU's collection.  They include scrapbooks highlighting Senator Church's 1976 campaign for the presidency, Frank and Bethine Church's trip to Cuba, candid pictures of Church with John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and photographs of Bethine with several First Ladies. The exhibit windows of the Senator Church and Governor Andrus Rooms in Special Collections display items from these new donations, including a pen that President Lyndon B. Johnson used to sign the Wilderness Act of 1964, a landmark piece of legislation which became a law with the help of Senator Church’s floor sponsorship of the bill.

Welcome our new Archivist Librarian!

Greetings! My name is Kent Randell and I am happy to join the team at Albertsons Library here in beautiful Boise. My undergraduate studies were in history and I am excited to serve as the library's liaison to the history department in the fall of 2012. I am particularly interested in American history as well as the immigrant and pioneer experience.

I received my Masters of Science in Information (an ALA-accredited Masters of Library Science), Archives and Records Management Concentration, from the University of Michigan, where I also worked at the Bentley Historical Library. Since graduation I have worked for the State of Nebraska Capitol Collections, my undergraduate alma mater Northern Michigan University, and Finlandia University in Hancock, Michigan. I am happiest when digging through the Archives to assist a researcher on any topic. I can't wait to see more of the Idaho wilderness in any season as I am an avid snowshoer and hiker. I am also a music lover and relax by playing my guitar or mandolin.
