The Albertsons Library offers you a comfortable place to study and an array of resources to power up your research endeavors.

Here are some of the things we have in store for you this summer:

• A growing collection of research databases. Access articles from thousands of journals and magazines, such as Gale's 17th to 18th Century Burney Collection Newspapers and Environment Complete, to Studies on Women and Gender Abstracts and Web of Science.
• Extensive interactive subject guides in Public Administration, Economics, Materials Science & Engineering, and many more via the library's LibGuides system.
• Have a smart phone? Check out our mobile library site.
• A Starbucks coffee shop on the first floor.
• Computer commons equipped with Microsoft Office 2007.
• Extensive book and article search via our catalog interface.
• Want a Mac or Dell laptop? Check them out from the library's Circulation desk and use them in the library.

Get research and library help any way you want - ask away! Albertsons Library now offers text messaging research assistance. Need help locating books and articles? Need to know where to start your research? Simply send your question to 208.546.9982. 

Staff members are available to answer your questions during library hours; currently Mon-Thurs 7am-7pm, Fri 7am-6pm, and Sat-Sun 10am-6pm.

Using your phone, you can also get research help by calling the Reference Desk (208.426.3301), chatting 24/7, emailing a question to refquest@boisestate.edu, or using our mobile web site. In addition, research help is always available in person at the Reference Desk, 1st floor.

Congratulations to BSU Student Employee of the Year

Great students make a great library! We're proud to announce that Jonathan Donahue, our amazing Lab Manager in Library Computer Services, has been named the recipient of the Boise State University 2009-2010 Student Employee of the Year award. 

You may have seen him around the library keeping our lab computers running smoothly. Jon has worked as Lab Manager for the last two years while pursuing his Computer Science and Math degrees. He has demonstrated not only the advanced technical skills required by the position but he also brings to the job a terrific attitude -- he's courteous, patient, and positive, and best of all he's always attentive to the needs of library coworkers, faculty, and students.

He has far exceeded expectations in every area. Jon is Albertsons Library's first recipient of the award, and we're lucky to have him on our team.

Summer Hours at the Library

The Albertsons Library will be open until 5:00 pm today, Friday, May 14. We will be closed on Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16.

Our Summer hours start on Monday, May 17 when we will be open from 7AM to 7PM. Please refer to our friendly calendar for the Summer semester schedule.

Tribute to Velma Morrison

During the Spring 2010 commencement ceremony on May 15, Velma Morrison will receive an honorary doctorate from Boise State University. Morrison is only the eighth person to receive this honor from Boise State.

Morrison has maintained a partnership with the university for over thirty years, known for developing the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, as well as providing millions of dollars to numerous buildings and projects at Boise State University.

To commemorate her long association with the university, Albertsons Library Special Collections created a special tribute on Velma Morrison featuring photographs from its collection. To access the online tribute, please visit http://library.boisestate.edu/vmorrison.

Take University 106 in fall 2010

Take University 106: Library Research (1 credit) and learn to find the information you need to succeed in course papers and projects. UNIV 106 will get you on the path to becoming an information ninja, able to slice through the web and maneuver the library’s rich information landscape to conquer projects. All courses are one-credit pass/fail and are taught by librarians.

PoWeR Up!
ENGLISH 102 & UNIVERSITY 106 are teaming up to help you get a jump-start on your research skills. Watch this video to learn more:

Are you ready to take English 102 in the fall and looking for an enriched experience? Consider participating in PoWeR (Project Writing and Research)! What is PoWeR? It's what happens when writing instructors and librarians work together so that students benefit. In PoWeR, you will take both a specified section of English 102 *and* a one-credit (pass/fail) section of University 106: Library Research.

All of the students enrolled in a designated section of English 102 will also be enrolled in an online section of UNIV 106, creating a hybrid learning community of researchers and writers. Within this combined four-credit experience, you'll get a lot of support for both your writing and research through integrated assignments. The content of both courses is coordinated so that University 106 activities work towards the completion of English 102 writing projects. Now that’s PoWeR!
